Chosen Champion Book Review

Chosen Champion, Book 2, Vortex Chronicles You did not just end the book like this! Fortunately, the next one comes within a week. And contrary to the first book, this one kept me on edge with Vi going on her adventure. I was excited for her that she would finally meet Taavin and then scared as well since she will meet the enemy and as the crown princess, people will just use her to gain more power.  I think the one thing that stood out most in this book is the reveal of the traitor. I must say I am not happy that I wasn't surprised. I was suspicious of that person since the Winter Solstice festival and the person was always grumpy, or on edge. I don't know how to describe it but I know that I did not trust that person at all.  Well, good riddance, though knowing the father of the traitor, I felt a little sad. He doesn't deserve that. I like him from Air Awaken's chronicles. Ugh!  And the second thing that stood out in this book is meeting Vhalla, again. It was

Vortex Visions Book Review

Image
Vortex Visions, Book one of the Vortex Chronicles Reading Vortex Visions was like coming back to a place you visited a long time ago. I loved Air Awakens books, with Vhalla and Aldrik. Elise Kova knows how to create worlds and inhuman creatures that become normal for you, such as in the Loom Chronicles. And I expected the same with Vortex Visions, Elise definitely delivered.  Vhalla, being one of my favourite female book characters, it was pretty normal that I love her daughter. She is a good mix of Aldrik and Vhalla. I nearly forgot the promise Vhalla made to Sehra. I'm glad it was not shown how it happened, I wouldn't bear watching Aldrik and Vhalla letting go of Vi. Anyway, few first pages of the book and I was already hooked. We heard about and met the original characters. We met new characters that slowly became my favourites as well, except Andru. His first expression got me suspicious and I nearly hated him.  I must say it took me a while to understand that Romu

Bloodwitch Book Review

Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard (The Witchlands #3) Man! that book took me a while to read, but for a good reason!  I did not want to miss anything - the plot, the details, the main characters and the descriptions of the surroundings. Dennard is an amazing word as well as a world builder! I am thoroughly amazed. I took my time starting the book and then when the last chapters came, I finished the book wanting to know more.  I am not satisfied, I want to know more. I want the main characters to meet TOGETHER. The four characters whom I came to know, to learn and to love. Even Aeduan, who I was so apprehensive about in book one and a little in book 2. These characters are so well written. The details are meticulous.  Reading a Witchland book is like going on a journey, on an adventure with each character; Safiyya as the court's truthwitch with Vaness, Merik with Esme (SHE IS PSYCHO WHO SHOULD BE DEAD), Kullen/Fury (BASTIEN?what) with Esme and with the Raider King, Iseult and Ae

Bunker Boy Book Review

Image
Bunker Boy by Jordan Elisabeth I have always been a fan of Jordan's book - her flow of writing and the intrinsic way the plot's twists occur. This one took me by surprise. I did NOT see that twist coming at the end, I was so confused, 'is this really the end? what really happened? will she go out and see what happened to her family?' It did not occur to me that the whole thing was a cult. It was annoying to read about the men being such asses and making the rules for the women, but I do get the 'we need to repopulate the world'. However, it is NOT the first thing that you think about if you ever wake up from a  coma after surviving a near apocalypse.  I felt so much anxiety when Zara was going out, exploring around the resort. I was scared that she get caught, get tortured BUT somehow I did wanted to see if they would throw her outside. This was me still believing, like the girls, that the end had come. I think I need to re-evaluate the number of post-

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave Book Review

Charlie Davidson Series, Book 13 (Last one) I DON'T WANT IT TO END!  I delayed so much reading this one because I did not want it to end. I want more. It ended with a cliffhanger though. WHERE'S OSH? DID HE SWITCHED SIDE? We need Osh and a Beep story, like 18years later. I am sad that Charlie and Reyes couldn't be 'normal' parents. But they are here for her, a safe haven.  As usual, Charlie's character is a breath of fresh air. You love her even if she's annoying or keeps naming things/locations/body anatomies with ridiculous names. Reyes is just Reyes. This man makes me hyperventilate every time his dimple or smirk is mentioned. The man is among the top shelves male characters along with Bones from Night Huntress, Barrons from Fever Series, Kaleb from Psy-changeling series and Raphael from Guild Hunter series. TOP SHELF, ma man!  After 13 books, you tend to be familiar with Darynda's writing style and the flow of the plot. As usual, there i

Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead Book Review

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #3 EPIC-TASTIC FINALE  I took my time with this one. It was worth savouring each page. I can't express how much I love this series. Magnus, Samirah, Blitz, Hearth, Mallory, T.J and Half-born have become my friends (in my head). The book has the typical Riordan's ingredients. It is hilarious, the adventures just don't stop, the actions even how gruesome it is, you are not horrified, you root for the characters, the plot has a flow and you learn tons on specific mythology, and this case, it's on Norse.  I could not help myself picturing Loki, Odin, Thorn, Heimdall and Frigg as the actors in Marvel's Thor. Though picturing Thor, Chris Hemsworth as a Metallica fan who likes to fart a lot was hard. I had to stretch my imagination there.  I won't summarise the story - those who read the first two will know what is going to happen in this and why our young (mostly dead heroes) are hell-bent in stopping Loki's

The Wicked King Book Review

The Folk of the Air Book 2 YOU CANNOT END IT LIKE THIS! I REFUSE!  Oh my god! I am having a mental breakdown. Someone sedate me until the next book comes out. You realise, Black, that I will need tons of books to forget how I need to read your next instalment.  Oh man!  I don't even know where to start. There are so many events and I don't want to spoil them - they are all important. But I will say, the title fits - he is bloody wicked indeed, till the end. He totally blinded me. I did not even focus on him, but only on Jude and who was the traitor. I was not that shocked when we discover who the traitor was - he was acting a little weird.  Madoc was predictable but using that foolish pawn at the end to take the army was brilliant. THAT FOOL! As if I did not have more reason not to like her. She needs to get her heart majorly broken to be able to think for herself. Jude, just made me respect her more. She is not good nor she's bad but she doesn't give up.
