Bunker Boy Book Review

Image
Bunker Boy by Jordan Elisabeth I have always been a fan of Jordan's book - her flow of writing and the intrinsic way the plot's twists occur. This one took me by surprise. I did NOT see that twist coming at the end, I was so confused, 'is this really the end? what really happened? will she go out and see what happened to her family?' It did not occur to me that the whole thing was a cult. It was annoying to read about the men being such asses and making the rules for the women, but I do get the 'we need to repopulate the world'. However, it is NOT the first thing that you think about if you ever wake up from a  coma after surviving a near apocalypse.  I felt so much anxiety when Zara was going out, exploring around the resort. I was scared that she get caught, get tortured BUT somehow I did wanted to see if they would throw her outside. This was me still believing, like the girls, that the end had come. I think I need to re-evaluate the number of post-...

Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead Book Review

Image
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #3 EPIC-TASTIC FINALE  I took my time with this one. It was worth savouring each page. I can't express how much I love this series. Magnus, Samirah, Blitz, Hearth, Mallory, T.J and Half-born have become my friends (in my head). The book has the typical Riordan's ingredients. It is hilarious, the adventures just don't stop, the actions even how gruesome it is, you are not horrified, you root for the characters, the plot has a flow and you learn tons on specific mythology, and this case, it's on Norse.  I could not help myself picturing Loki, Odin, Thorn, Heimdall and Frigg as the actors in Marvel's Thor. Though picturing Thor, Chris Hemsworth as a Metallica fan who likes to fart a lot was hard. I had to stretch my imagination there.  I won't summarise the story - those who read the first two will know what is going to happen in this and why our young (mostly dead heroes) are hell-bent in stopping Loki's...

The Wicked King Book Review

Image
The Folk of the Air Book 2 YOU CANNOT END IT LIKE THIS! I REFUSE!  Oh my god! I am having a mental breakdown. Someone sedate me until the next book comes out. You realise, Black, that I will need tons of books to forget how I need to read your next instalment.  Oh man!  I don't even know where to start. There are so many events and I don't want to spoil them - they are all important. But I will say, the title fits - he is bloody wicked indeed, till the end. He totally blinded me. I did not even focus on him, but only on Jude and who was the traitor. I was not that shocked when we discover who the traitor was - he was acting a little weird.  Madoc was predictable but using that foolish pawn at the end to take the army was brilliant. THAT FOOL! As if I did not have more reason not to like her. She needs to get her heart majorly broken to be able to think for herself. Jude, just made me respect her more. She is not good nor she's bad but she doesn't give ...

Cruel Prince Book Review

Image
The Folk of Air Book 1  "If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse." - Jude   Holy acorn!  I swallowed this book whole in one day.  I just open it while I was in a waiting room and then swallowed three chapters. The moment I went home, I hit the bed and started to read while making a hot cappuccino. I COULD NOT LET IT DOWN! I was stressed for Jude. I just wanted to tell her to go to the mortal world and live there. But our girl is power hungry and she wants to have a place in a world where they don't respect her and where she came to live because she had no choice. The more I continued to read, the more I saw Arya Stark in Jude, but more power-hungry than revengeful. It's like if Arya came to stay with Cersei after her training at the Faceless men. Taryn reminded me of Sansa Stark at the beginning where she wanted to be married to fit in, to have a place. I must say I am not a fan of Taryn. I will read the novella on her story in a fe...

Magic Triumphs Book Review

Image
Brilliant  Andrews outdid themselves! This one was off the chart - the plot, the sarcastic conversations, the character developments especially with Huge D'Ambray (I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AFTER MISHMAR NOW), the battle action and the ending. It was perfect. It had an ending we deserved, an ending we did not know we needed.  I do not know if this was the last story of Curran and Kate , I hope to God not. I want more of them. They are fun, romantic and badass. There is no boring moment in the book. I felt like I was present in their house while conversing with the others while being on the street trying to protect Conlan and on the battlefield. I could not let go of the book, even at work. I had to finish it especially the moment d'Ambray enters the scene.  Kate and Curran never changed. They are the same as they were from the first book. Though I was scared for Curran with him eating God to attain power. But we knew why he did it at the end and it w...

Archangel's Prophecy Book Review

Image
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?  So, Lijuan and the Cascade's effects were not enough, Elena had to undergo some kind of 'death' now. The moment she showed signs of regression, I was one edge. This one really put me in a bad mental shape. I want Elena and Raphael to be together, happy and well. Fight together and look after each other, and after the sevens. I want Illium and Aodhan books. This one was excruciating. Raphael's pain and Elena's fight against the effect of the cascade on her. I am starting to wonder if the Cascade is even a source, power or a being. And just when you think you would not hear about the Archangel of China, the big B makes her cameos, in Favashi . This is was weird. She really needs to sleep, like a permanent sleep. And don't get me started on the Archer's plot, dude has some serious issues. The Guild should stop making Slayers and maybe do a team of them instead of one. They just go nuts! One disappointing part was the lack...

Shades of Wicked Book Review

Image
A Night Rebel Novel. I nearly lost hope about Frost writing Ian's story. I thought it would never come, but it did and I read it and I LOVED IT! I definitely devour that one. Took me four days and it would have taken me less if I wasn't working or sleeping. I waited so long to read Ian's story and when I got it, I just swallowed it whole. He would be proud of me. LOL From the moment I met Ian, in the Night Huntress Series, I wanted to know more. What resides about the layers and layers of sarcasm and assholery. He could not be that bad if he is so willing to help his friends. He treats them like family and would never hurt an innocent soul. In this book, we learnt it all. His deepest fears and the soft side of him. We even learn his true identity. I wished he would take the real name instead of Ian, the real name was much better and prettier. As for Veritas, she surprised me until the end. The woman is badass and has, or had so many secrets that I nearly tho...

Ocean Light Book Review

Image
Ocean Light by Nalini Singh  A Psy-changeling Novel The Trinity Accord Era Being big isn't an advantage if you don't use your brains. Intelligence and strategy have won more fights than might. - Bowen Knight, Chief Security, Human Alliance In the middle of the read, I was already planning to give this book 4 Stars on Goodreads, but then... FREAKING KRYCHEK APPEARED. So it is a 5 Stars for me! The moment we first met Bowen Knight , I was curious about him. He could not be unimportant to introduced him and had him cameos in other stories as well. He had to be important and he effing is. He could nearly pass as a changeling alpha. The dude reeks of dominance.  The plot was well done, well written and to the point. There were no unnecessary descriptions that made you forget what the eff is happening or which conversation just happened. The descriptions only made you want to visit Lantia or Ryujin, or eat Kaia's blueberry pie. Enough to tickle the ima...

Favorite Quotes in Stygian

Image
Just some of them. The whole book is filled with inspiring quotes.                                Just remember that we don't always get to be who we want to be. Sometimes others force us to act against our natures. And survival is the harshest master of all. It's easy to praise a man in good times and condemn him in bad ones. But never should we be judged for the totality of our lives during that erratic pendulum swing. For fate is a fickle bitch who slaps us on one cheek, while she caresses us on the other. War was a vicious cycle of hatred.  The day would come where they realised that they weren't so different. That even though they were born worlds apart, their goals were the same. That they all bled red. And that the only way for them to have the peace they so desperately wanted, to have the world they craved, was to unite together and fight side by side as one family. Not to let the...

Death doesn't bargain Book Review

Image
Death Doesn't Bargain A Deadmen Cross novel book 2  I must say, I really savour this one.  The Deadmen have become my second favourites after the Dark-Hunters.  AHOY   This is the story of Cameron Jack (our lass we met in book 1, who came on board to look for his brother) and of one of the seamen, Kalder Dupree.  The plot has a flow, like a wave- sometimes calm and sometimes tumultuous. I have always loved Kenyon's writing style - no overload of description, average cheesy dialogues, to the point hot scenes and action-packed every now and then. You never get bored.  And of course, when she brings the other beloved character in the picture.  The cameos in this one left me screaming. The three T, S and A together. Bickering and looking hot as hell. I died. I had to close the book to get my shit together.  The revelations in this one were quite interesting. I did not expect Kalder to be something more. I suspected that his real mother would ...

Stygian Book Review

Image
Stygian by Sherrilyn Kenyon A Dark-hunter #27 Man, there is so much to unload  One thing I love when Kenyon focuses on one character is unloading all the background, the history of this character who is 1100 years old. I kept waiting for the story to come to the present time, but to understand Urian, we had to know the situation in which he was born, his childhood as an Appolite, and his early life as a Daimon until he was 'killed' by his foster dad, Stryker. We saw how he grew up, his strength, his vulnerability and his resilience to not give up when most of his loved ones passed away in front of him.  It was a lot to swallow. Another character with a hard childhood and teenage life, doomed to die at 27 or live as a soul-sucker. But Urian wasn't a mere daimon. He is the Son of a great warrior/a bloody chthonian and son of the Goddess of War and Misery. You can't eff with our boy.  Some of the scenes were repetitive (from the previous books), I did not mind...

Warcross Book Review

Image
Warcross book 1  I am obsessed!  This is officially my first time reading  Marie Lu ’s and I love it. The nuance of the plot, the characters and the writing style slayed. I could not stop reading. I was glued to my pages, even during a family dinner.  OBSESSED! And of course, after I devour this book like a proper Booklion, I had a bad book hangover. I HAD to get Marie Lu’s other books.  Our main female protagonist is a hacker and nearly homeless and penniless, namely Emika Chen who sports a rainbow hair. Life has definitely not been great for her. She is beautiful, smart and doesn’t give up.  One bold move on the famous interface Warcross, and she becomes a Celebrity. We're talking Black Mirror meets Ready Player One.  At first when Warcross is being introduced and described, I was in awe. I wanted to have this world. I live practically online - chat, ebooks, streaming movies and shows. So, having this while walking, doing daily chores...

Favourite Quotes from Deadmen Walking

Image
The curse of this world was that it was ever changing. Friends today. Enemies tomorrow. And, as was presently true, even enemies could become more friendly.  Life was even peculier that way, as it kept everyone on their toes. You never knew where it was going to land you, or how quickly.  Sinner to saint. Hero to villain. A person's role could reverse itself in the blink of an eye. All it took was one good deed of redemption.

Deadmen Walking Book Review

Image
ALL ABOARD THE SEA WITCH, YOU FUTTOCKING BUFFOONS  I have been a fan of Kenyon for years, with the Dark Hunter Series (which include the Dream Hunters and the Katagaria, Drakomai etc). I was always intrigued with Thorn, and now have a series on his pawns. Ehehe  Devyl would shit wood if he was referred as Thorn's pawns. Though he was at the beginning, yet an ally is more appropriate wording. So, Deadmen Walking is the First novel of the Deadman's Cross series (I hope it's a series, not a futtocking trilogy). At the beginning, we meet Paden Jack who is fighting a sea monster - deformed Kraken if you judge by my imagination.  Then forward to his sister meeting the main protagonist of the book in a bar, the notorious Captain of the Sea Witch, Devyl Bane. He has crew of deadmen, called Hell Chasers and their leader is our Thorn. ehehe Cadegan's father, Lucifer's son and sexy mofo governing Asmodeus. His real name... I don't like, it makes him sound too human. T...
